Hierarchical Task Network track of the International Planning Competition

HTN IPC 2027

The HTN IPC 2027 is the part of the International Planning Competition 2027 that focuses on the performance of different AI planning systems solving hierarchical task network (HTN) problems – those where tasks are organized in a hierarchical fashion and problems are expressed in terms of compound tasks that need to be broken down step by step until executable sequences of actions are found.

The HTN IPC 2027 is hosted by ICAPS 2027, where the results are presented. The competition itself runs asynchronously, ahead of the conference. See Timeline for key dates.

The HTN IPC 2027 offers several different tracks, differing in what input models are supported, and what kinds of solutions are intended. See Tracks for details. All problems are specified in HDDL. We also require specific output formats to allow planner-independent verification of the results.

Participants submit their planners ahead of time. We run them on benchmark problems that are unknown to the participants beforehand, under identical time and memory limits, and score them as described under Rules. Afterwards, the benchmark domains, the submitted planners, and all logs and plans are published, so that the results can be verified independently and reused as benchmarks for future research. Note that we also call for new benchmarks, and you can submit no matter whether you participate or not – we are happy for any submission!
